Support & Discussion Groups The Carter Burden Center also offers the following groups: Chinese Language Group The Chinese Language Group was developed in response to the changing demographics within our catchment area. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of Asian individuals 18 years and older residing in Community District 8 increased 54.6% between 1990-2000. Some of our Asian clients indicated that they were no longer able to travel to Chinatown in lower Manhattan to socialize with other people who speak their language. The group meets every second Thursday of the month 2:00 - 3:00. Green tea and Chinese sweets are provided. Please call Jian ping Zhang @ 212-879-7400, Ext. 106 for further information. Women's Discussion Group The Women's Discussion Group is open to women age 60 and older residing within our catchment area who can come to visit the Carter Burden Center office. The group meets every Monday afternoon from 2:00 - 3:00 pm and is coordinated by a Homebound Unit social worker. Participants discuss current events, films, changes in the neighborhood and personal recollections. Refreshments and cookies are served. Alzheimer's Support Group for Adult Children In collaboration with ElderServe of Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale and the New York City Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, we offer this support group for children who care for their parent. This group meets on the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:00-7:30pm. Please call Ken Onaitis at 212.879.7400 x114 for more information. Caregiver Information & Referral Clinic The Carter Burden Center recognizes the needs of caregivers who
may benefit from assistance and direction in finding and learning about
resources available for their loved ones. The Clinic addresses the need
for information and is open to any person who is a caregiver or who may
be a caregiver in the future. It meets one weeknight a month. We provide ongoing assistance to those individuals
