Dancing Up a Storm
Last January, area seniors braved the wintry weather to spend the afternoon dancing up a storm of their own. The Homecoming Dance for Seniors, held at All Souls Church, was sponsored by the Carter Burden Center Associates, a volunteer group of young professionals. All Souls graciously donated the space for the dance, and so the Associates transformed Reidy Friendship Hall into a patriotic vision of red, white, and blue.
Over 80 seniors attended the free event, and for many it served as an introduction to the Carter Burden Center and its services. Julia Cadice attended the event with her father Anthony, 81. "When I saw the poster for the dance, I thought it would be just perfect for my father," recalled Ms. Cadice. "He loves to dance, but he doesn't get out much anymore."
The dance was the first time Ms. Cadice had heard of the Carter Burden Center, and after speaking with some staff members at the event, she plans on taking advantage of several of the programs offered. "I work full time and take care of my father, so it's great knowing that there is a group that can help me with things like Medicare and entitlements." And Mr. Cadice's thoughts? When asked he responded, "I can't wait for the next dance!"
