SENIOR WEEK 2009
May 11th - 15th marked the Carter Burden Center's Annual Senior Center Week, in celebration of Older Americans Month. There were special events and activities every day including a spiritual meditation, tips for green living, a martial arts demonstration, free massages and self-massage lessons, laugh yoga, a special performance by the band of PS 158, and an opportunity to get pictures taken with friends.
The "Volunteer Recognition" ceremony took place on Wednesday. This year, the Regis HS interns and PS 226 were awarded the Student Volunteer Award. Maria King was awarded the Senior Volunteer Award. This year's recipient of the Lucy Fowlkes was Marge Cantor.
Also on Wednesday, was 'Guest Chef' day, and we had the pleasure of welcoming Gavin Kaysen, executive chef of Cafe Boulud, to the Luncheon Club kitchen where he prepared a delicious lunch for the seniors.
Sailors from the United States Navy that were here visitng for Fleet Week spent the afternoon delivering and serving meals at the Luncheon Club.
Thank you to all who participated and helped in the planning of this fun-filled week. A special thank you to Gavin Kaysen and staff of Café Boulud. Also, thanks to East Side Massage and Rainbow for donating gift baskets, and to the United States Navy sailors for volunteering their time.
